Writing & Menopause - Rage on the page with Wild Grace

By Dr. Sarah Walton

The Journey leading up to menopause is a path of personal growth that is unique for every woman. Although there are some signs we can recognise that are common to many women, the way we respond to the change from the first perimenopausal signs onwards is different and very personal for each of us. It depends on our life journey to this point, and the tools we have developed on the way.

My new course - The Wise Wild Woman Self-Paced Journey - is a transformative course to support you to listen to what your soul is saying to you.

The Wise Wild Woman archetype helped me navigate my personal path of transformation. Menopausal transformation is personal because we are all unique. Ultimately, it is a journey of the soul. For me, I have travelled deeper than I have dared to travel before - and I thought I'd dived the depths of myself. There was more. There's always more. We are infinite beings. And the transition through menopause - which can be a journey that lasts up to ten years for some women - invites us to unexplored parts of ourselves.

This powerful phase in a women's life offers us the opportunity to step into being the woman we've been becoming all our life.

Feeling lost and a stranger in my own skin, I turned to my journal - as I did when I had my brain injury and was going through a huge body-mind-soul change back in 2024. I picked up my pen to anchor my peri-menopausal process on the page. My Soul Writing Method connects me to me.

Confused, I wondered about what was happening to me on an inner level. Nobody had told me what to expect. It wasn't the physical changes - there's loads of information about that. It was the inner transformation that I could sense had sped up; my body and soul were demanding attention. And I knew I must listen. Who am I now? This was my biggest question. What's being asked of me? was another.

One way I know to find my way back to myself, is with my pen.
I trusted my pen to navigate the way.

At times I raged on the page. When this happened, I called in the Wise Wild Woman to hear me, to witness me and to hold me tenderly as I traversed the darkness of the unknown - the unknown strangeness of my body, the nights awake, the shifts in my hormones creating changes in my mood and my responses to almost everything.

Rage is anger repressed by trauma and expressed in an unhealthy way. By channeling my repressed anger through my pen, the wisdom began to emerge. The times I'd held my tongue, the times I'd been way too polite and nice, when a simple "no" would have been the only sensible answer, the times I'd silenced my own soul and ground myself down in workaholism. The other side of anger is wisdom. My pen channelled the Wise Wild Woman who showed me the wise way forward.

With the Wise, Wild Woman as my witness and my guide, I found myself questioning all my life choices with courage. I reflected who I was, who I am now and who I am evolving into.

Peri-menopause and menopause is when this authentic, fearless archetype comes into her own. Many of you will have experienced in Soul Writing workshops over the years an energetic merging with your personal guides. In the same way, I merged into my Wise Wild Women and let her guide my pen and my life choices. It was a wild journey, and after several years, I'm only just coming out the other side.

This soul transition - if we can tenderly sever the nooses that hold us back from our authenticity, and cut loose what no longer serves - can be the most authentic phase of a woman's life.

I thank my pen and I thank my Wise Wild Woman guide for the clarity I've found on this journey, emerging from the chaos with a sense of Wild Grace.

Wild Grace is the energy with which I created this course. As with all Soul Writing courses, you also learn the essential storytelling skills.

Soul Writing connects you to you.

By writing from your intuition, you bypass your inner critic and realise you already know how to write.

I’ve designed the Wise Wild Menopause Journey guided meditations to take you on a deep transformative journey and to establish a connection to yourself.

The guided mediations are also designed so you learn key storytelling skills without being taught. You’ll create location, character, meet and dialogue with your Wise Wild Woman, and practice connecting with your senses in an embodied way and use them to express your emotions and deepest hopes, dreams, fears and desires on the page. It’s effortless. There’s no need to learn as humans are wired to write story.

It is through story - our personal stories -
that we grow and know who we really are.

If you are entering peri-menopause or are deep in the process, I invite you to join me on this Self-Paced course.
