Psychotherapeutic counselling

Thank you for visiting my profile here at The Open Door.

My journey to becoming a therapist began over 10 years ago after a career in business and education. Whilst working as a facilitator and coach, I came to realise that the challenges we face in learning and work can also be effectively approached through a therapeutic process focusing on the core aspects of who we are as individuals.

I trained in a humanistic discipline that respects the essential ‘OKness’ and fundamental autonomy of us all, offering psychological models that help us understand how we come to create ourselves in the world and providing insights into how we might choose to respond differently in the way we approach problems and engage in our relationships.

My initial training included a period as a bereavement counsellor, which led me into a leadership role at St Peter & St James Hospice. Whilst counselling those living with severely life-limiting conditions and those closest to them, I oversaw the delivery of the hospice psychosocial services supporting patients and families.

Following the great disruption of the pandemic for us all, in 2021 I moved on to establish this, my own therapy practice. As well as continuing to offer bereavement support, I work with a wide range of adults presenting with different difficulties, including trauma, anxiety, depression and relationship issues.

I have also found that increasing numbers of people seek therapy for periods in which they feel a sense of ‘stuckness’. This has led to collaborative work between us focused on uncovering hidden obstacles to their decision making capacity so they feel better placed to move ahead with their lives.
